Project 5:9 was born from the collaboration between Travis Sparks, founder of 5:9 Shield Group and a first responder, and Dr. Leah McMillan, founder of EnSpire Counseling & Wellness, clinical therapist, trauma specialist, and first responder counselor.
For years, Travis and Leah worked alongside one another, supporting individuals in crisis, responding to traumatic events, and walking with people through some of life’s most challenging moments. Through those experiences, they developed a deep respect for each other’s work and a shared passion for caring for the first responder community. They also recognized the toll the job can take and the need for a safe, confidential space where first responders could find real mental health support in a safe and confidential environment.
Launched in 2025, Project 5:9 brings that vision to life. The program blends real-world first responder experience with clinical expertise, offering meaningful care for those who dedicate their lives to serving.
Project 5:9 collaborates with United2Prevent to raise awareness and funds that finance first responder therapy and peer counseling sessions without cost to the first responder.
Travis and Leah offer training focused on first responder mental wellness and resiliency.
